Medellin Headshots

Headshot Background Options

People walk into the studio in Laureles and ask me for “a normal headshot,” which is a little like ordering “a normal coffee” in Medellin. There are choices to make. The background is one of the first.

A few things decide it. What color is your hair and skin? What are you wearing? What feeling do you want to send: warm and friendly, or serious and in charge? And does your company already use a look you need to match?

If we book a longer session, we have time to try a few. For big group days, twenty people and up, we usually pick one and stick with it so nobody misses lunch. Here are the options I reach for most.

White

White is bright, clean, and cheerful. It’s often my first pick. It matches almost any website, and it gives nice contrast against most clothing.

White is also easy to swap later. I can lift you off the white and drop in a solid color, a soft blurry office, whatever you need. It keeps your options open.

Gray

Gray also plays well with everything and gives good contrast with most hair and skin. The difference is tone. Gray feels a touch more serious.

If you’re a therapist and you want to look approachable, go white. If you’re a lawyer or run money for people, gray sends the steadier message.

Out of focus / office

This one keeps getting more popular. Instead of a plain backdrop, I use a long lens and let the real room behind you melt into a soft blur. It’s surprising how good ordinary office furniture looks once it’s out of focus. This one needs a bit of space to work, so it’s better in a larger room.

Colored backgrounds

Not my favorite. A strong color can fight with your clothes or skin tone, and it can clash with your brand colors online.

Color is also hard to repeat. The same blue paper under slightly different lights reads as a different blue next time. If matching across shoots matters to you, shoot on white or gray and I’ll add the exact color afterward. That way it’s the same every time.

Outdoor

Medellin makes this easy. The light is good most of the year and the city is green. A shaded spot outside gives you soft, natural light and a relaxed feel. It suits creatives, real estate agents, anyone who wants to look human instead of corporate.

Still not sure? That’s normal, and that’s my job. Tell me what you do and where the photo will live, and we’ll land on the right look together.

Book your session and we’ll sort out the background when you get here.
